A Rationale for Guidance Services in a School.

Abstract

The paper was prepared to serve as a foundation for a counselor when establishing a guidance program in a school system. It provides a philosophy and rationale for a guidance service program and lists basic objectives that would be desired. Many problems face a counselor in establishing his guidance program and he must analyze what objectives can be immediately achieved and which of them must be delayed until adequate resources are available. He must constantly evaluate the resources available with the needs of the students, administrators, teachers, and parents to be able to provide the most effective program possible. This is done to help the students to proceed from grade to grade, school to school, and from school to the employment area of the adult world. (Author)
