Topics in the Analysis and Optimization of Complex Systems.

Abstract

The general theme of the research is the development of methodology to bridge the gap between computer-oriented quantitative methods and the needs of system designers and decision-makers faced with systems of significant complexity. Two major areas are emphasized in this research: General means for the development of efficient but accurate models, by repro-modeling a complex model or by the creation of empirical models; The optimization of strategy or system design with respect to multiple criteria. Research results in these areas are outlined, particularly multivariate, nonlinear data-analytic techniques required by both problems.
