Drug Abuse in the Army

Abstract

The essay discusses the growth of drug abuse in the Army, actions that have been taken to control the problem, and planned or proposed actions to prevent and control it. In addition to sources indicated, information was gathered by researching the files and through discussions with action officers and supervisory personnel of the Drug Abuse Control Division in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, Headquarters, Department of the Army. Development in urinalysis testing, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and law enforcement are included. The discussion includes significant problems in the implementation of the Army plan and some future plans.
