Measurements of the Sticking and Recombination Coefficients of Electrons in Gases by the Penetrating-Radiation Method,

Abstract

The Russian translation details the methodology and certain results of measurements of the sticking and recombination coefficients of thermalized electrons in the region where pressure exceeds several mm Hg. The measurements were conducted by the super high-frequency method in a decaying plasma created by pulse irradiation of a gas by either electrons having an energy of about 1 MeV or gamma-quanta having energies of the same order. This method was used for measuring the dependence of the sticking coefficient of electrons in oxygen and in air and the dependence of the recombination coefficient of electrons in xenon on gas pressure.
