Experimental Study of Stochastic Ray Theory Relations.

Abstract

The ray theory intensity relation has been modified to allow consideration of the effects of medium randomness. This study compares this theoretical model with actual sea data. It also investigates the theoretical relations for the standard deviation and the coefficient of intensity fluctuation in a variable and random ocean. In all cases, good agreement is found to within the sampling limitations imposed by the sea data. In addition, the higher order statistical quantities are remarkably well behaved, even beyond the predictions of the model. (Author)
