Beach and Near-Shore Studies, Point Barrow, Alaska Conducted during the Period July 1954- January 1957.

Abstract

The report has been prepared to bring to date the progress of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Beach and Near Shore Studies at Point Barrow, Alaska. The present report includes field work through January 1957. Near shore bottom investigations in the Point Barrow, Alaska, area in 1954 indicated a simple and moderate to rapid drop in the sea bottom outward to a shelf depth of approximately 20 feet. Two major storms within the period of observation resulted in slight changes. Four major storms which followed, as shown by 1955 surveys, caused radical changes. A definite, submerged, offshore bar was found at two of the sites and essentially no change at the third.
