A Proposal for Evaluating the Effectiveness of Various Testing Methods for Selecting Counselor Trainees.

Abstract

The research proposal focuses on the rapidly growing need for fully trained and qualified counselors in our society. Existing methods used to identify graduate students who possess an aptitude for counselor training are examined and found to be largely ineffective since there presently is little correlation between results obtained from them and subsequent trainee success in therapeutic endeavors. Research procedures are presented which will provide a basis for evaluating the relative merits of a new type of counselor trainee selection instrument, as contrasted to those now in use.
