Mental Retardation: Insights and Perspectives.

Abstract

The history of mental retardation treatment is traced and genetic factors in retardation herdity are discussed. The adjustment of an 'average' mildy retarded person to life after release from an institution is examined in detail, and the success of a group of previously-institutionalized retardates is surveyed. Today's state institutions are examined, and contrasts drawn between good and poor levels of care. (Modified author abstract)
