Sediment Core Descriptions: R/V MAHI 1970 Cruise, Western Pacific.

Abstract

Barrel descriptions are presented of deep-sea sediment cores obtained by the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics on cruises of the R/V MAHI during 1970 in the western Pacific Ocean. Location of ship tracks and coring stations are shown. Core station data includes station number, core number, location, water depth, and length of cored sediment recovered. Descriptions include lithologic and structural sections, and descriptions of the sedimentary units encountered in each core. Nomenclature follows that established for deep-sea sediments by JOIDES for the Deep Sea Drilling Project. Recent modifications to the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics sediment analysis procedure are explained. (Modified author abstract)
