The Effect of pH on the Preservation of Red Cell ATP and 2,3-DPG in the Presence of Methylene Blue, Progesterone, Adenine and Inosine.

Abstract

Conditions for optimal preservation of the levels of ATP as well as 2,3-DPG in the red cell upon prolonged storage were obtained when the CPD preservation medium was near neutrality at the time of collection. Extremes of pH (4.1 and 8.0) are detrimental for the preservation of either ATP or 2,3-DPG. (Author)
