Experimental Evaluation of Viscous Vortex Rate Sensor.

Abstract

The report summarizes an experimental program to evaluate the performance of an HDL designed hydraulic viscous vortex rate sensor. The rate sensor consists of two coaxial cylindrical disks with an outlet tube located at the center of one of the disks. Radial inflow of the fluid develops into a sink flow with a vortex generated by an angular rate input through fluid-wall boundary viscous coupling. A sophisticated hydraulic facility with hydraulic oil as the working fluid was utilized to test the rate sensor under controlled fluid temperature, pressure, and flow rate.
