Three-Color Plasma Panel Display Device.

Abstract

ROPERTIES, XENON, COLORS*PLASMA DISPLAY PANELSThe objectives of the program were to design, fabricate, and evaluate a plasma display panel having 3-color capability and to investigate and develop a technique for operating such a device with three levels of intensity. Red, blue, and green-emitting phosphors that respond to vacuum-UV excitation were selected for use in the multi-color plasma panel. Six panels with 60 total lines per inch line-density, 512 x 512 multi-color resolution-elements and a display area of 17 in. x 17 in. were fabricated and tested. An electronic drive system capable of operating these panels was designed and constructed. Three levels of intensity could not be achieved on the color-panels because of certain characteristics of the UV-emitting gases. Multi-state operation was demonstrated on a conventional 33 line-per-inch, non-phosphor, plasma display panel. (Modified author abstract)
