An Analytical Model of the Ferroelectric Radiation Detector.

Abstract

As part of the Defense Nuclear Agency project J11 AAXPX231 to study the behavior of the ferroelectric radiation detector, an analytical model of the energy balance within a ferroelectric crystal has been developed. This model relates ionic spacing and charges to macroscopic quantities such as the pyroelectric and piezoelectric coefficients. Although a highly simplified model, resulting in calculations that can be handled by a desk top calculator, it accurately predicts those quantities of interest in analyzing normal ferroelectric radiation detector response. Because the model also accounts remarkably well for certain piezoelectric parameters, it appears that application may be extended to ferroelectric transducers and components other than radiation detectors.
