Electrolyte for Hydrocarbon Air Fuel Cells.

Abstract

Several acids were tested for use with direct hydrocarbon fuel cell electrolytes. Complete fuel cells of the matrix and free electrolyte type were used as test vehicles. The performance of cells possessing H3PO4 electrolyte served as a baseline. Only one, tetrafluoroethanedisulfonic acid synthesized at Energy Research Corporation was shown to be superior to phosphoric acid for direct propane oxidation of elevated temperature. (Author)
