Low Cost, Fiber Glass Reinforced Plastic Fuel Tank.

Abstract

Fiber glass reinforced plastic composite fuel tanks (300 gal.) for the A7D aircraft are developed and tested. The primary objective of this program is to demonstrate feasibility of utilizing fiber reinforced plastic composite materials for fabrication of aircraft tankage on a production basis at low cost. Fatigue data for the composite and adhesive bonded materials utilized in fabrication of the tank is developed. Analysis of the tank involving loads, weight, stress, nesting, and tank volume is performed. Procedure and results of these analyses are reported. (Author, modified-PL)
