A Data Management System Problem Specification Model.

Abstract

CHOOSING A DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (DMS) for a particular data problem. The main factors that should be considered for a DMSPSM are: (a) the input, output, and maintenance requirements of the data base; (b) a specification of the data problem; (c) a logical file representation of the data base; (d) a complete description of the data management systems to be considered; and (e) a detailed description of the computer system(s) that the DMS is to reside in. The main emphasis of this model (DMSPSM) is that the data problem description or specification is the basis for developing the output of the model. The output of the model is a solution to a data management problem as described by the user(s) of the data base. (Modified author abstract)
