High Temperature Polyphenylquinoxaline Fibers,

Abstract

Representative polyphenylquinoxaline (PPQ), polyphenylimide-quinoxaline (PPIQ), and polyphenylamide-quinoxaline (PPAQ) polymers have been spun into fibers from m-cresol solutions via a wet spinning process. Fiber properties were determined at room temperature and at 260 C. The highest room temperature strength properties (tenacity(g/ d)/elongation (%)/modulus(g/d)) for PPQ, PPIQ and PPAQ were 2.9/8.5/71, 5.8/20/74 and 5.5/14/63 respectively. Air exposure at 260 C for 300 hours followed by testing at 260 C GAVE THE FOLLOWING TENSILE/ELONGATION RESULTS FOR PPQ, PPIQ and PPAQ: 1.8/13, 3.7/ 22, 3.4/18. (Author-PL)
