Improving Interactive Capabilities in Computer-Assisted Instruction

Abstract

A report is made on the development of interactive capabilities in the SCHOLAR CAI system. Tutorial mode is based on extensive analysis of dialogues between different tutors and students, performed earlier. In this mode SCHOLAR first questions the student to find out what he knows about each topic, and then presents some related information limited to what the student can assimilate. Block-test mode is based on the strategy used in programmed instruction. In this mode SCHOLAR first presents information and then asks questions about the information presented.
