On Diffusion Flames in Turbulent Shear Flows.
Abstract
Predictions of the time-averaged mass fraction profiles for a turbulent diffusion flame, which immediately imply the rate of product formation, are readily made, provided the time-averaged profiles for a passive scalar in the same flowfield and also the probability distribution function for the fluctuating states of the passive scalar in the same flow are known. While recently proposed closures for the time-averaged conservation laws permit the time-averaged profiles to be determined analytically with adequate accuracy, the probability distribution function is likely to require experimental measurement.
