Abstract

REPT.,Richter,Thomas J. ;ECOM-5504DA-1-T-061102-B-53-A1-T-061102-B-53-A-18(*altimeters, design), atmospheric sounding, meteorological balloons, radar trackingan/tmq-19The purpose of this effort was to investigate the parameters that would affect the design of a non-electronic calculator intended for emergency use in the Automatic Atmospheric Sounding Set AN/TMQ-19. The designed calculator, ML-646(XE-1)/UM, is used to compute meteorological balloon altitude; it is the result of trade-offs involving basic measurement accuracies of the ground tracking system, AN/TMQ-19, curvature of the earth corrections, geopotential altitude above surface, refractivity, and pitch and roll of the ground tracking system.
