Hydroquench Thrust Termination Analysis.

Abstract

The objective of the amended contract was the development of a computer program to predict the internal ballistics of the hydroquench thrust termination process. The starting point was the computer program developed under the original contract, 'Ballistics Predictions for Mass-Augmented Solid Rocket Motors.' The gas generator of the mass-augmented motor is replaced with a subroutine describing the spatial and temporal properties of the injected water throughout the motor. The solid propellant combustion model and the overall interior ballistics analysis remain essentially intact. The novelty of major importance is the interface between the water analysis and the combustion analysis: description of extinguishment by water contacting the propellant surface. This surface heat transfer process is distinguished from auxiliary extinguishment processes, which also are present in mass-augmentation. (Modified author abstract)
