Application of Numerical Techniques to Transonic Flow Field Analysis.
Abstract
A study was made of methods for computation of transonic flow about bodies of revolution. Of the many methods developed for various fluid mechanical problems, only a few have been even marginally successful in calculating transonic flow fields. The relaxation procedures of Krupp and Murman and of Bailey appear to be the only programs available in the U.S. which satisfactorily treat axially symmetric transonic flows. These two methods are similar, with differences in grid and imposition of boundary conditions. Several comparative calculations were run with the two programs for a simple body of revolution and for a variety of choices of grid and location of the inner grid boundary.
