Optical Pumps for Holmium Lasers.

Abstract

07-72-C-0274DA-5662703-A-1865662703-A-18606ECOM0274-1(*flash lamps, design), (*optical pumping, lasers), holmium, lithium compounds, fluorine compounds, yttrium compounds, xenon lamps, krypton, performance(engineering)*holmium, *lasersThe overall objective of the program is to produce more efficient pulsed optical pumps for use with holmium-doped yttrium lithium fluoride laser materials (Ho:YLF). The absorption and excitation spectra of Ho:YLF laser material have been determined. Twenty-nine xenon lamps have been constructed and tested. The effect of varying the parameters of noble gas arc lamps on the fluorescent light output of Ho:YLF laser material is being studied. Preliminary in-laser lamp tests have been made at input energies between 9 joules and 23 joules. (Modified author abstract)
