Fleet Returnees and Task Analysis,

Abstract

Fleet returnees were the source of task analysis data gathered in a rating task survey to provide Naval aviation class A school training administrators with information concerning tasks performed in the fleet. The RTS method developed a checklist of questions concerning the tasks performed by non-rated designated strikers and petty officers third class, the level for which A school students were to be trained. This checklist was administered to petty officers second class and above personnel who were returning from the fleet activities to attend advanced, or class B, schools. Personnel returning from fleet assignments for instructor duty also were asked to complete the checklist. It was assumed that the information could be gathered at the training command rather than going to the fleet. Two studies were performed to determine whether the assumptions were valid.
