Metallurgical Report of Hydrostatically Extruded Half-Scale ASROC Motorcases.

Abstract

The report contains the results from the evaluation of the hydrostatic extrusion process performed on half-scale ASROC Motorcases, A1S1 1010 steel tubing. Dimensional inspection revealed the inability to maintain circulatory straightness, and an acceptable surface finish. Apparent lubricant failure during the extruding process resulted in stretch marks or actual surface tears which proved to be detrimental to the materials' mechanical properties.
