Fuel and High Temperature Resistant Channel Sealant Suitable for 15-Mil Gaps.

Abstract

A formulation of a cyanosiloxane polymer is made which meets the performance requirements of MIL-S-81323A, Class A, channel sealant for sealing 15-mil gaps at temperatures up to 350 F. Expansion and contraction of channel sealant during cycling is reduced by increasing pigmentation and by using solvent- fractionated polymer. Low-temperature flexibility and adhesion retention is improved by using a silane-treated pigment and replacing the epoxy with a phenolic resin. pH is varied from 4.1 to 7.7, and corrosion disappears by changing pigment types and quantities. Chromate pigments effectively inhibit corrosion and are incorporated into the formulation. (Author, modified-PL)
