Proposal for the Development of Underwater Sound Transducers Utilizing Magnetostrictive Rare Earth-Iron Alloys.

Abstract

An investigation of the use of magnetostrictive rare earth-iron alloys as active elements of underwater sound transducers is proposed. The primary objective of the program would be a transducer having an acoustic output or sensitivity equal to or greater than a piezoelectric transducer of similar size, a high resistance to shock, and performance stability with respect to time.
