An Introduction to Adaptive Beamforming.

Abstract

The purpose of the report is to describe and compare the various algorithms used in ABF (Adaptive Beamforming). It was written primarily to disseminate information among those who will require a working knowledge of ABF. Various techniques of matrix inversion, gradient search, and eigenvalue decomposition of the cross-spectral matrix are discussed. An introduction to beamforming is given in matrix notation, and performance criteria are stated and compared. Although the detailed derivations for the algorithms are omitted, the block diagrams, assumptions, limitations, conclusions, and all available information are given. (Author)
