Allocation of the Availability Parameters Repair Times and Failure Rates to Various System Configurations,

Abstract

The research is designed to provide cost-based mathematical optimization techniques which can be used to allocate repair times and failure rates at the component level for various system configurations. Techniques were developed which can be applied to series systems, series arrangements of one or more units made up of identical components in active parallel, and systems composed of a group of series components connected serially with one or more parallel units of identical components. The results of the research are a set of computer programs which can be used to perform the allocations at the component level of the system. The optimality of these allocations is based upon the use of Lagrange multipliers under an availability constraint which is imposed on the system. (Author)
