A Production System Study of Data Processing Centers,

Abstract

A data processing center so common and necessary as a subsystem in an overall large organization today is often overlooked as a production system and as a result many data processing systems may be operating inefficiently. The paper studies the data processing center as a production system and proposes several descriptive statistics that may be used in a monthly analysis of the computing system. In the study two new terms are introduced concerning turnaround which form the basis of the systems effectiveness study. In addition some equations are presented for the measurement of systems effectiveness which may be used for the entire system or with respect to any of the subsets within the system. (Author)
