Nearly-Best Linear Conditional Unbiased Estimation of the Location and Scale Parameters of the Weibull Probability Distribution by the Use of Order Statistics.

Abstract

A table of coefficients for nearly-best linear conditional unbiased estimation of the location and scale parameters of the Weibull probability distribution is given. The shape parameter is assumed to be known. The theory of order statistics and the method of Lagrange multipliers are used to obtain coefficients for complete ordered samples and for the same ordered samples censored from above. Relative efficiencies of the nearly-best estimators with respect to the best estimators are greater than 77.715 per cent for all cases examined. The coefficients can be used also for simultaneous estimation of the location and scale parameters. (Author)
