Analysis and Design of Thermally and Mechanically Prestressed Flat Plates Subjected to Transverse Blast Loads.

Abstract

The computer code described in this report has proven to be accurate, fast, and easy to use in the analysis and design of prestressed flat plates subjected to air-blast loads, such as those caused by nuclear explosions. Studies of parameter incluences can be easily carried out. The influence of loading parameters can also be evaluated. The computer code does have the limitation of linear elastic material behavior. This limitation should be overcome by extension of the method to include elastic-plastic and viscoelastic material behavior. Results of the parameter study indicate that mechanical and thermal prestresses can significantly influence the dynamic response of structures.
