A Psychophysical Investigation of Cartographic Technique.

Abstract

The goal of the research was to ascertain the extent to which the visual map comparison performance of human subjects is influenced by map user experience, the type of computer-generated cartographic depiction the complexity of map patterns, and the degree of simple statistical correlation between pairs of maps. The dependent variable was defined as the number of errors in ranking maps on a cross-correlation continuum with a referent stimulus. (Author)
