HLH Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Preliminary Investigation

Abstract

The preliminary study was conducted to determine the GSE required for the heavy-lift helicopter (HLH) early enough in the program to allow ample time for development/procurement of long lead time items. The HLH aircraft systems were analyzed during the preliminary design stage to establish maintenance concepts, identify the necessary organizational and direct support level tasks, and select equipment suitable for performing the tasks identified. The selected equipment was classified as existing as-is, existing requiring modification, or not available and requiring new design and development effort. The elapsed maintenance time and the number of personnel required to perform organizational and direct support level tasks in the Army aviation environment were determined. In some instances, several alternate approaches for GSE were identified which will require trade-offs to complete the equipment selection process.
