Serologische, Klinische und Parasitologische Untersuchungen an Spezifiziert-Pathogenfreien Ferkeln vor und nach der Infektion mit Toxoplasma Gondii (Serological, Clinical Parasitological Investigations of Specific Pathogen-Free Piglets before and after Infection with Toxoplasma gondii),
Abstract
Twenty-three specific pathogen-free piglets who had neither been infected with toxoplasms nor had suckled, were at the authors' disposal for the present investigations. The sera of the animals were inactivated for half an hour at 56C and tested by the standardized dye-test-technique, commonly applied in Germany. The sera of 15 animals gave negative reactions, also after repeated testing. The titer values of the remaining sera ranged between negative and 1:4. Titers of 1:4, therefore, may appear as unspecific values. Nine of the piglets were then orally infected with cystforming Toxoplasma strains, two further animals served as noninfected controls. The infected animals developed fever (up to 41.6C), apathy, anorexia, diarrhea. There was also one fatal case. The above symptoms are regarded as specific reactions to the infection. A number of organs of these animals were splitted by shaking with glass-beads and artificial digestion and injected into mice. The agents could be isolated from the lymphatic nodes, the intestine, retina, pleural and peritoneal exudate. (Author)
