A Drag Model for Cavitating Axisymmetric Bodies.

Abstract

A method for predicting the steady drag on cavitating axisymmetric bodies is presented. Portions of axisymmetric ellipsoids are fitted to the bodies and the forces acting on the bodies are assumed to be the pressure forces acting on the portions of the ellipsoids used. The pressure is calculated as if the ellipsoids were fully wetted in an ideal fluid. The method is accurate for practical purposes for body shapes for which data are available. On this basis, it is applied with confidence to other axisymmetric shapes. (Author)
