Evaluation of an Electronic Aid to Navigation for Buoy Positioning.
Abstract
The concept of using a precision survey type of electronic radio aid to navigation by typical Coast Guard buoy tender personnel and the resulting accuracy of buoy positioning and ease of operation is examined. A combination of equipment was tried on four different Coast Guard boats and the measurement accuracy determined under different operational conditions. Various modes of operation are presented and advantages and disadvantages of portable and fixed equipment is delineated. Implementation problems and conclusions are presented. (Author)
