Small Scale Temperature Fluctuations Near the Sea Surface.

Abstract

Thermistor measurements of small scale temporal and spatial fluctuations of temperature were made near the surface of the sea from the NUC Oceanographic Research Tower. Wave height, water particle velocity, sound velocity, and salinity were measured simultaneously. Data were subjected to statistical and spectral analyses. Temperature fluctuations were found to vary with wave height. A linear relation was found to exist between temperature fluctuations and wave swell. The assumed relationship was verified by the results of spectral analysis. (Modified author abstract)
