The Bender Missile: A Case Study.

Abstract

Two cases have been developed to examine the concept of assigning to a Navy Laboratory the management responsibility for the development of an air-to-air missile system. The first case examines the organizational relationships and operational difficulties that have resulted from this 'field development' concept. The second case discusses the Management Review, a program control technique used by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, to examine some related problems created by this different development approach. A teaching commentary is included to assist the instructor in his preparation for use of the cases in the classroom. (Author)
