Compton Scattering Kernel for Maxwellian Electrons.

Abstract

The report documents an in-house Air Force Weapons Laboratory (AFWL) effort which compiled an extensive data library describing the differential Compton scattering cross section from a relativistic Maxwellian distribution of free electrons. This report is simply a Users' Manual for using the necessary computer codes within AFWL or for locating previously generated data in the AFWL computer archives. Two codes are briefly described. The first code, TYCHO, calculates the Stone and Nelson relativistic Compton scattering kernal for 175 values of photon energies between 0.05 and 4000 keV, for any desired Maxwellian distribution of electrons described by temperature T. The second code, KEPLER, computes the first four Legendre polynomials of the differential scattering cross sections. Instructions for reading the archive tapes are given as well as user instructions for generating new data. Sample output is also included. Archive tapes include data for 18 electron temperatures from 0.25 to 20 keV. (Author)
