Increasing the Longevity of Dental Radiographic Processing Solutions with Replenishment.

Abstract

A two-part study was completed to produce a carefully controlled replenishment system and to determine the useful chemical life of three gallons of processing solutions. Part 1 indicated when the first replenishment should be completed. Part 2 showed that, by using smaller volumes of solutions in smaller tanks and by using the surplus volume for regular replenishment, three gallons of solution could satisfactorily process more than 25,000 equivalent periapical films. Visual clinical judgments have shown that radiographs are still acceptable beyond the point at which the densitometry readings indicate a more rapid decline in the chemical activity of the solutions.
