Effects of Neutron Irradiations on Nerve Tissue Cultures. Part II. Instrumentation for Remote Electrical Recording from Neurons in Culture.
Abstract
In preparing to investigate the effects of 14-Mev neutron irradiation of neural cell cultures, a compact device was built to expose and simultaneously record electrical activity of the neural explants. Unique features include a vibration-free table mounting, a homeostatic nutrition flow and temperature control during electrical recording from microelectrodes, remote scanning, with movement in increments of less than one micron, with closed-circuit television monitoring, and a laser beam optical system which allows for stimulation of the neurons in response to preselected firing patterns.
