An Algorithm for the Scheduling of Vessels through the Panama Canal.

Abstract

The thesis presents an algorithm for scheduling vessel transits through the Panama Canal together with a compilation of current Marine Traffic Control scheduling practices. The performance of the scheduling algorithm is compared with the results of an actual transit schedule using the Panama Canal Company Marine Traffic Control scheduling objectives and additional measures of effectiveness derived in the paper. The interaction between these measures of effectiveness is discussed as pertains to their future use in the efficient scheduling of vessels through the canal. (Author)
