Feasibility Investigation of a Miniaturized Dye Laser.

Abstract

The research effort under the subject contract involves development and testing of a sealed-off unconfined arc flashlamp, with subsequent incorporation of this lamp in a miniaturized pulsed dye laser. The purpose of the program is to investigate the feasibility of achieving laser performance characteristics including: peak output greater than 100 watts, pulse duration greater than 100 nanoseconds, and repetition rates of 200 pps or greater. Work completed under this contract has resulted in demonstration of a miniaturized dye laser capable of satisfying most of the originally stated goals individually though not all simultaneously. Simultaneous satisfaction of all stated goals appears feasible but will require additional work. (Author)
