Study of Polarization Nonlinearity Near Phase Transitions in Perovskite-Type Ferroelectrics, Using An Anharmonic Oscillator Model,

Abstract

A model of an anharmonic oscillator is applied to a unit cell of the perovskite structure. A microscopic representation for the coefficients A and B in the expansion of the form E = AP + B(P cubed) is found by the method of Boguslavskiy, and extended to the paraelectric state of the ferroelectric. Comparison is made with experimental data on the system (Ba, Sr) TiO3.
