Project CHASER: Photometer Sensor Package

Abstract

Rocketborne photometers were designed, tested, installed, and successfully flown in a series of field operations as part of Project CHASER, for observing missile exhaust plumes in a restricted spectral region. The equipment consisted of several alternative daytime/nighttime and photometric/ imaging modes. A special baffling system was incorporated which provided high off-axis rejection of stray light for daytime baffling system. Additionally, a mechanical belt scanner was employed to derive target imaging information. The report includes discussions of the instrumentation employed as well as those source and background factors which affect the design and field operation of the system.
