AFRRI Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Simulator

Abstract

An electromagnetic pulse simulator for animal studies has been built and operated at Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute since September 1972. The exposure volume consists of a terminated parallel-plate transmission line fed with a pulse the time dependent wave form of which can be approximated by a double exponential. Peak electric field strengths up to 500 kV/m are available at a repetition rate up to 7 pps.
