Component Analyses of the Attribute Data Based on the Position Analysis Questionnaire (PAQ)

Abstract

The basic aim of the study was to identify the underlying dimensions of a set of attribute rating data made up of the attribute profiles of the job elements of the Position Analysis Questionnaire (PAQ). The PAQ is a structured job analysis questionnaire that provides for analyzing jobs in terms of 196 job elements. The attribute profiles consisted of median ratings of the relevance of each of 76 human attributes to the job elements in the PAQ. The use of component analysis was directed at answering two questions. First the dimensions underlying the attributes were investigated using a traditional R- type component analysis. Then the job element dimensions were investigated using an inverse or Q-type component analysis.
