Abstract

.Technical memo.,Garinther,Georges R. ;Thompson,David H. ;HEL-TM-19-73*Antitank weapons, *Combat noise, *Human factors engineering, Stresses, Noise reduction, Hearing, Losses, Tolerances(Physiology)Six weapons being evaluated under the Short Range, Man Portable, Antitank Weapons Technology (SMAWT) Program were studied for compliance with MIL-STD 1474, 'Noise Limits for Army Materiel.' Detailed test and instrumentation procedures and analysis techniques are provided for use when evaluating the noise of shoulder-fired weapons. The parameters used for determining compliance with the standard are furnished along with an assessment of the noise of each weapon. Recommendations are provided to reduce the probability that the firing of these weapons induce excessive hearing loss. (Author)
