Expected Pivot Size in Gauss Elimination.
Abstract
A simple analysis of the expected size of pivot elements in Gauss elimination using partial and complete pivoting is given. The analysis supports the empirical observation that complete pivoting typically does not yield significantly more accurate results. (Author)
